Supporting people with disabilities in a computer course, building hiking trails or organising a games afternoon for senior citizens: Swisscom employees who perform charitable work as part of the Give & Grow corporate volunteering programme make an important contribution to the environment and society. Swisscom grants two paid working days per year to perform such voluntary work. Corporate voluntary work has a long tradition at Swisscom. In 2012 the company’s existing activities were stepped up and the Give & Grow corporate volunteering programme was launched. Since then, some 1,300 Swisscom employees have performed a total of around 1,500 days of voluntary work, 600 of which in this year alone. The programme is continuing, and this autumn numerous new activities will be available for employees to get involved in. These will be offered as part of our proven partnerships with around 40 organisations including WWF and Procap.
Swisscom offers volunteering opportunities in a variety of areas Everybody involved benefits from Give & Grow. “The employees gain an insight into a new environment and are made aware of ecological and social issues, which in turn also benefits Swisscom. And our partners are able to count on motivated support,” explains Fabian Etter, Head of Corporate Responsibility at Swisscom. Voluntary assignments can be performed in a variety of areas. "Social Days" focus on activities with senior citizens or people with disabilities, while "Nature Days" primarily take place in nature reserves or mountain forests, allowing employees to improve their ecological knowledge in addition to performing the actual work. On "Economy Days", the employees themselves become purveyors of knowledge, for example as part of the Young Enterprise Switzerland (YES) programme where they familiarise secondary school pupils with the workings of the economy. Management staff are also given the opportunity within the framework of special assignments to pass on their management skills and further develop their own knowledge in the area of sustainability. As part of this work, they meet young social project entrepreneurs and support them in developing their ideas.
